Hey! I'm Gal, but I go by Shade. I am a 15-year-old builder focused on software development, Linux, and open source.

I love thinking of new ideas in my free time and then actually building them into real tools that make life easier and more productive. That shower-thought-to-working-app moment? Still the best feeling ever.

Projects I am building

• Musique - native macOS music player inspired by Amberol
• Flatmac - Flatpak to macOS via Arch Linux MicroVM + XQuartz
• Nitro - fast, privacy-first browser in Zig and Swift
• dkcode - "GitHub replacement" project (work in progress)
• Queuein - QR-based queue system for restaurant walk-ins

How I work

I am a Linux-first person, but most of my current work happens on my M1 MacBook. it's a weird mental thing, i can't seem to focus on PCs but i work perfectly on laptops, and the M1 is the only laptop i've got.

Linux is still where I come from: customization, privacy, control and transparency. I fell into that rabbit hole in 2024 after building my first PC and have stayed in it since.

Build style

I like to do open source. i believe in transparency and I want people to use the software I make and contribute to it. otherwise, why make it?
